HEALTHY START’S PRENATAL & INFANT HEALTH CARE TO BE SEVERELY CUT

The Florida House of Representatives has proposed a $5 million budget cut for Healthy Start statewide. The Department of Health officials estimate they will also lose another $4.5 million in federal matching funds, resulting in a budget cut of $9.5 million. Since Healthy Start is a major force in the prevention of infant death and premature births, it is estimated that 11,580 eligible at-risk pregnant women and babies will lose health insurance, health education and care management in Florida.
